Preview: The skin of Junk and Fishy

Me and Junk are working on a crazy skin. Hopefully to be available for download during next week. But, we would like to have some ideas and reactions from other members of the ejukebox family, before kicking the baby out of the nest :)

Nice work guys! it's a good restructuring!
I appreciate your work, i know it's the result of much devotion...
I'm impatient to play with the official version! :)

I'm also making something close.
Personally i try to select fonts which stay legible on a TV screen, for HTPC users...
But it's time-consuming...

That's nice Pirk. Very nice indeed. I use the tv display with ej sometimes for parties. It would be nice to have a skin that looks legible on that screen too.

The skin of Junk and mine definately looks best on a high resolution monitor. So it would be really great to have a skin especially designed for the telly as well..

Now when switching between skins has become such an effortless task having several skins to choose between is just perfect :)

We've made a "beta release" of our Arctic skin. It's available for download here:

http://www.skarv.net/ej/skins/Arctic.zip

Try it out, and give us feedback... :)

Here's a quick shot of the new buttons as well as a slight spot effect around the album cover.

Very nice!

Ah, nice work Junk :) Really liked those new symbols. Especially the visualization one. A small galaxy? :D

By the way you forgot to include the cd1.gif and cd2.gif so users of the "beta skin" will not have the cd animation in the nowplaying panel available :b

Waow! I'm really impressed by your work.
I don't know how you make all these great symbols and cool designs, but the result is quite fabulous!! It's a delight to the eyes...

Junk, which drawing program do you use to obtain a such result, in addition to your talent... ?

Thanks a lot Junk & Fishy for this beta version! :)

Thanks! Great to hear that you like it. I also have to congratulate Fishy on his work - I know your way throughout the .dis files was not a painless effort. :) (getting rid of the bouncing artist text, to mention one curious artifact.)

Pirk, I mainly use Photoshop, allthough some of the gadgets were drawn by me in a long time ago, from my Amiga days, in programs such as Art Effect and Personal Paint.

I made a page about customising the amiga desktop a long time ago, located at http://www.skarv.net/desk/ , and you might recognize some of the graphics from the arctic skin in there. :)

I've played a bit with your magic(al) skin: I've taken the liberty of changing a few fonts... I hope i've not damaged it to much! ;)

heh interesting :) But how do those big fonts in the now playing look when albumnames and artistnames are long?

I liked that little separator border under the upnext albumimage. Is that something you've added or is it junks work?

I've chosen these big fonts for my htpc skin, i use them since a few days. You will be surprised, but they look good in most cases... When names are really very long it's the album name which is cut, but in general that looks quite good!

Otherwise, the separator border is my own production!! I've simply marged (in Photoshop) your "arctic" background with the original image of Audiosoft.
Photoshop is really great when you know how to use it... But unfortunatly i'm not very familiar with it because i'm not an ideas man like Junk!

Thanks! If you want to use that on the arctic skin... why not, but i would not to influence your good "nordic" feeling. But if you wish...
Here is a screenshoot with a long name:

Heh why not. It's always good with inspirations from outside and french ones aren't that bad after all ;)

We would be delighted if you could send your little seperator and that background where "playlist" is situated. I noticed a nice little bow there which isn't in the orginal setup ;) If you could you send those to me or Junk at icq or make it available in the forum it would be perfect...

This is an example of where the autoscroll feature for the album name would come in handy.

Great skin, guys!!!

Yes Steve, you are right! ;)

But i just wonder if it would be more judicious to scroll the song name instead of the album name?
I think that would be more attractive to see the now playing song which scroll, and finally produce an equivalent place saving...

Unless Audiosoft can add both?
And why not the artist name too! So each line would scroll when necessary...
Knowing in most cases only 1 or 2 lines would be concerned at the same time! :)

The only thing is it might look odd to have the title scroll independant of the artist name....so i think we will make it possible to scroll "Artist - Title" like in winamp at the top then the "Album" in a seperate scroll at the bottom. There will be options for this in the nowplaying.dis so that it does not scroll unless the skin's nowplaying.dis says it should.

So you will be able to have it always scroll Artist-Title at the top or have it display the artist and title like before. Plus you will be able to make it AutoScroll the album name when neccessary at the bottom if the album name contains more characters than you specifiy in the songlist.dis.

Good news!

Even though i am not a fan of scrolling text (steals my attention too much), i am glad we are getting these options.

Will it also be possible to place the text differently? I've always found it more natural to have the artist name on top, for instance. Much like in my old suggestion for a future eJ design:

Thank you for consider this problem Audiosoft!
You have found a solution which should make skinning easier and satisfy almost all tastes...

However, would it be possible to specify in the nowplaying dis file to scroll the song title alone when necessary OR (i mean an EXCLUSIVE OR) the artist name alone when necessary? Knowing it's rare that both are too long at the same time, and in this specific rare case you can allow eJ to scroll "Artist - Title" like you plan to do... Keeping a way to specify to always scroll Artist - Title, whatever names are long.

Just an illustration:
Junk will you follow this up with some cool patterns in this panel? And maybe a larger forwards button as well? Time to get this thing out on the water :)
