Database management

Alright, I think I found something that really needs to be put in and shouldn't be too tough to add.

My proposition is a simple Dbase cleaning function. Deleting all the bad entries like when a file gets moved from outside ejukebox. For some reason when I add files from my mp3 root it randomly adds songs it already has along with the new ones.

Anyone else think that's a good idea?

You already have something equivalent to the cleaning function you want: Options > Update database > Re-Build Database.
Choose to rescan from your mp3 root folder. As everything is saved in the ID3 Tags (song names, artists, albums, popularity, ratings, images or ref. to images) after rebuilding you will recover all your songs data and statistics, intact! ...and only for the songs which are really still presents in your mp3 folder...

Yes, the rebuild database option does work but, sometimes we remove songs from eJukebox that we do not want removed from the hard drive and for some strange reason, I keep getting popularity data put back into the program.

Does the eJukebox support compacting and cleanup? A lot of databases run better with that kind of utility run on them.

Yes, eJukebox compacts the database every time you close the program.

Rebuilding the database should fix any problems you have after moving or renaming the music files on the hard drive.

How about a new option to clear the popularity pick counts on Rebuilding.

cbsoundman,

You are right, sometimes i also remove some mp3s only from eJukebox. And if i rebuild the database, this work is lost... That's true.

Personally, i try to keep my mp3 folder perfectly clean, with one album by folder. But as most of my mp3s come from ripped CDs, it's quite easy...

But you are right, at work we have a database one which we need to run a cleanup utility, once a month...

Why not? Of course, if it's turned off by default.
But we have already a such option on the home page, no?

Yes, rebuilding the Database does fix everything, but I download quite a bit from mp3.com and make heavy use of the newest songs tab. After you rebuild the database it resets the newest songs to Reverse Alphabetical order.

Yes that's true, after a rebuilding the newest songs list is a nonsense...
But i admit it's not easy to do something better, even if i don't like to see the songs in reversed order!

Audiosoft,

Maybe you could display the songs in normal order, but focusing the list to the bottom of the page?
