Ripping Causes Internet Problems

Check this:

*** When I rip Cds, the internet connection stops working! ***

It still looks connected and my modem is still on, but "bytes sent & received" remains static. Waiting several minutes after the rip has finished or restarting my machine is the only way to get the internet to work again. Simply disconnecting and restarting the connection won't log me on to my ISP.

You may think "What's the big deal?" well:

1: I cannot rip another CD until 10 minutes after the first one because the lookup feature won't find tracklistings.

2: My jukebox won't find covers for songs it's playing whilst ripping.

3: (most importantly) My machine acts as a server for a network. The other machine on this network cannot access the internet.

4. Internet radio stops working.

I hope the answer is something obvious.
I run win2000 on an AMD850 with 512MB RAM
