huge drop in system resources

 When I use ejuke 3.9 , my system resources drop from 73% to 33%. What is happening? If I do to much editing or adjusting the computer crashes.
pentium III , windows 98 , 256 megs Ram , I do have 2 monitors hooked up, winamp 2.9
any suggestions ???
