An old request for the albumlist jumping
Fishy - 6-24-2004 at 11:59 AM

Just wondering, now when the albumlist jumping is so fast, if it's possible to make it so EJ listens for more than one keystroke. Just like it works in explorer.

That is: If I type l-e-d in a pretty fast time interval ej will jump to the corresponding artist ie: Led zeppelin.. Instead of first I, then e, then d.

In general I think this 'inline searching' would make albumlist navigation a lot faster because there often are many artists under a given letter in the albumlist...

Inline Searching for Album List Jumps has been added to v3.88. :D

In v3.88, you can start typing more letters to jump more precisely under your first letter. You can even click the artist bar letters to type it as you have a full 2 seconds after each click to type another letter. Each letter you type will jump the list more precisely. If you type a letter that doesn't match it will reset it and jump to the start of that letter.

I.E.

Type or Click L --> Jumps to L
Within 2 Seconds - Type or Click E --> Jumps to LE
Within 2 Seconds - Type or Click D --> Jumps to LED
Type or Click F (or any other non matching letter) --> Jumps to Start of F since you have no artists that match LEDF

--
It will also now work for typing numbers to jump to artists that start with a number....but only when the album list has focus.

-Also for remote control/keyboard only operation you can hold down the ALT key while typing letters (only those that are on the artistlist bar) to make it do the jumps regardless of whether the album list has focus or not.

Albumlist jumping works great! I use my remote (Phillips Pronto NG) exclusively to control my eJUKEBOX. Here’s what I have setup. I bought a cheep infrared PC PS2 keyboard and learned each letter key via. the remote and assigned a remote key. You could do something similar with Girder but I found this to be easer. This makes navigating large collections a breeze with the remote. Here’s a shot of the remote screen.

Your screenshot is very nice... but the Pronto is a bit expensive for me: 1099€ :o
Are you a multimillionaire? :D

Otherwise your idea using a infrared keyboard is very smart!

A multimillionaire? No where near one but this is the only remote that passes the ‘wifes’ user acceptance test so it’s worth every penny..;)

I understand, the wife... :D But at least she has a good taste!
