UP grade?

Okay - so here's the problem . . . ejukebox will try to start, but somewhere near 75% of the splash thing it hangs . . . apparently at odds with XP - I've copied a little of it here and attached the file:

I upgraded the data base stuff, tried deleting my old data base - that was working perfect - and it made a new one, but when it tries to use it -

My attachment was too big - so I'll send the final error message instead . .

Audiosoft - 6-9-2004 at 02:51 AM

Hmm... you should be able to delete C:Program FileseJukeboxejuke.asn then start eJukebox v3.83 and it will tell you database corruption occured and to restart eJukebox...restart like it says and it should then work.

If you get the same error: Delete C:Program FileseJukeboxejuke.asn and C:Program FileseJukeboxdb.m3u then install MDAC 2.8 from: HERE and then reinstall the latest eJukebox Upgrade and see if that fixes it.

kimert - 6-9-2004 at 06:40 AM

Okay - did that, still the same . . . so i figured there must be some kind of defaults if there is no .ini file around . . . hmmm - so I renamed it .outi and tried again - it went through getting the songs . . . and . . . started - but no songs anywhere - and seemed to hang again, but maybe I was a little too impatient - at this point you might want to take a look at my .ini file:

Audiosoft - 6-9-2004 at 07:04 AM

Please try installing the full version of v3.83 into a new folder and see if that works.

junk - 6-9-2004 at 12:27 PM

Isn't this the same error you get when you haven't got the newest version of Internet Explorer installed?

kimert - 6-9-2004 at 02:55 PM

The major crinkle here might be the xp sp2 2096 beta - this would definitely be the deal-breaker . . . but to un-install a paronoid-beta MS service pack? Now that would be interesting . . . which battle do I want to fight?

heehee

Fishy - 6-9-2004 at 03:30 PM

Don't take this the wrong way, but running beta versions of any product from that company are extremesports. And probably the source for your problems with ej as well..

PS: Really enjoyed the fireworks on your homepage. Have an exam tomorrow, so that one helped my mood a lot :D

kimert - 6-9-2004 at 04:21 PM

I understand that, but it worked without a flaw until I upgraded to 3.83. I suppose I could restore to before I upgraded . . .

Audiosoft - 6-9-2004 at 04:53 PM

Have you tried installing MDAC2.8 as suggested above?

kimert - 6-9-2004 at 07:39 PM

Sure did - think I mentioned it somewhere up there.

I have now restored my system to sp1. Guess what? Still doesn't work. I'm willing to uninstall the whole mess now as long as I can get a reg number right away. I think it's probably the next step . . .

What do ya think?

Audiosoft - 6-9-2004 at 09:06 PM

First try installing Jet 4.0 SP8 for XP from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2deddec4-350e-4cd0-a12a-d7f70a153156&DisplayLang=en

The XP SP2 beta you installed probally messed up some of the Jet system files. If that doesn't work you can do as you said and we will get you a new reg code quick.

kimert - 6-10-2004 at 12:06 AM

I tried the upgrade - no go.

I guess I'm missing something here - after uninstalling, I went through the registry and deleted everything that had audiosoft or ejukebox in it, then searched my entire computer including hidden and system files, and deleted all those, re-booted and re-downloaded not the upgrade, but the deomo - and it still wouldn't work, - and - still had the registration information....

I finally brought to my son's computer in his room, but of course when it came up here I needed a registration number... but I really don't want it on this computer - so - - - - -

Audiosoft - 6-10-2004 at 12:53 AM

If you don't have Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 installed yet I would give that a try.

Fishy - 6-10-2004 at 05:09 PM

And a clean Winamp 2.91 install from scratch maybe? Have you tried that? Can't see that mentioned anywhere in the thread? Don't know if that can be related to the problem though, might be way off field. Might there be some suspect winamp plugin that blocks ejukebox in some way? Just food for thought...

kimert - 6-11-2004 at 01:53 AM

Have the newest IE - will give the Winamp a try - this is worse than when I lost my third wife - ;-)

Fishy - 6-11-2004 at 04:26 PM

Because the forth can't listen to her music anymore? :D

Just kidding! Really hope you get ej to function again..

kimert - 6-15-2004 at 04:46 PM

Okay - just to keep everyone up-to-date - i just uninstalled EVERY XP fix from 2002 - to the present . . . uninstalled winamp - re-installed winamp - un and re installed ejukebox about 120 times - tried installing the NEW version - upgrading it with an OLD version - then upgrading again with a NEW upgrade - uninstalled ALL system updates still the same error - as soon as it gets done reading ALL the MP3 info - it EXPLODES:

Application popup: ejukebox.exe - Application Error : The exception Floating-point inexact result.
(0xc000008f) occurred in the application at location 0x77e73887.

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

I'm attaching a FILEMON file that shows all this from opening ejukebox, re-doing the database - to the ERROR - does this stuff MEAN ANYTHING TO ANYONE??

ARRGGHHH

cbsoundman - 6-15-2004 at 05:00 PM

Bit of advice about MS Service Packs...never on a production machine until they have been out for a month and never a beta on a production machine. That is coming from a MS Certified guru. Service pack 6 for NT was the reason I started doing that. They had to pull it because of a problem and release 6a instead. I got a few lab machines I use for a guinea pig before I install it on a production box.

kimert - 6-15-2004 at 08:08 PM

Maybe you can reproduce the problem - it worked with sp2 until the ejukebox upgrade . . . .

I'm going back to 3.1 . . . .

Audiosoft - 6-15-2004 at 11:03 PM

So you were using eJukebox v3.10 under SP2 beta and it worked? Then upgraded to v3.80 and it gave the error?

kimert - 6-16-2004 at 01:56 AM

no - i'm going back to Windows 3.1 . . . . I was using whatever the last ejukebox update was . . .

kimert - 7-2-2004 at 06:42 PM

It's WORKING again - I forced the jet files from mdac to overwrite the old ones -
